What we built
The nonprofit data API: free 990 data for everyone.
Northstar Toolkit models every IRS 990 filing into line-item financials, executive compensation, and foundation grants, and serves it three ways: free search and org pages on this site, a clean JSON API for builders, and a free MCP server that connects Claude or any AI agent to the whole warehouse.
The data is public; access to it shouldn't cost thousands of dollars a year. The 990 base layer is free and stays free. Commercial API use is priced at a fraction of the enterprise directories.

Founded by brothers John and James Church.
We saw nonprofits stuck choosing between expensive tools and spreadsheets, and thought we could build something better.
